Alpine
The European Alps present some of the finest mountaineering challenges on the planet. They're more accessible than ever with cheap flights from all over the UK, and whether you want to progress from Scottish winter walking to alpine snow peaks, or from rock climbing to the broad skills of alpine mountaineering, there are venues and objectives to suit everyone.

I'm based in Chamonix and my front window looks directly at Mont Blanc, the top of Europe at 4810m. From here, I climb throughout the Western Alps (and sometimes beyond!), with special attention on the area between Chamonix and Saas at the east end of the Rhone valley. The high season for alpinism is in July and August, but you can often climb here in June and September and have the mountain to yourself!

I offer a wide variety of itineraries and courses to suit all tastes. Most courses last 6 days, from Sunday to Friday:

  • Introductory Alpine Mountaineering courses
  • Technical alpinism courses
  • Private guiding for that special route you've always wanted to do

Ratios for alpine guiding vary. For introductory courses, it's 3:1. Most intermediate peaks including Mont Blanc are at 2:1, and some special climbs including the Matterhorn are at 1:1.

To climb in the Alps with me, check availability for existing courses and/or Download the Booking Form, or email me for more info or your own specific requirements.

Darren Sheppard on Pollux

"Despite a week of indifferent weather, Andy was his usual enthusiastic self. We climbed three 4000m peaks and I returned to the UK a lot slimmer!"
