Intro Off Piste Courses

Conditions are generally good for off-piste skiing from Christmas through to the end of April. I can't guarantee knee-deep powder and blue skies every day, but I can promise you variety!

To start off piste skiing, you need to have a firm grounding on piste, and be able to ski good parallel on red runs. You also need good motivation, and a sense of humour helps too! There's no minimum fitness level required, but the fitter you are, the more you'll enjoy it.

Courses are flexible to suit the snow conditions, your ambitions and abilities, but typically run like this:

  • Day 1: Introduction to the basics, staying close to pisted areas. Avalanche transceiver exercises.
  • Day 2: Reinforcement of basics, taking in more remote ground
  • Day 3: Tackling glacial terrain, route choice, crevasse avoidance and rescue
  • Day 4: Skiing steeps - an introduction to ski and safety technique
  • Day 5: Touring taster - how skinning uphill can give access to fresh tracks. Touring skis can be rented in Chamonix.
  • Day 6: The Vallée Blanche - what off piste is all about!

Course ratio:
